A few words about us

Serving fine food since 2012

Sonia & Geraint

Sonia and Geraint have co-owned Isabella’s Restaurant since March 2012. Sonia is from the island of Madeira, Portugal. She came to Wales in 1999 to learn English, but fell in love with the Welsh weather. She worked in a few restaurants improving her English before taking up a management role, which 12 years later would become Isabella’s. Named after her mother, Isabel. Geraint’s family is originally from Kenfig Hill (a small village outside of town). He has grown up in the hospitality trade from the age of 8.

We are a family run brasserie restaurant, with rustic décor and a Mediterranean ambience. We strive to deliver you great service and an atmosphere to match. The restaurant boasts an open kitchen and specializes in fresh meat and fish. On display we have a wonderful counter where customers come down to order and pick out what they want.

All food is ordered on a daily basis ensuring we have the freshest produce. Where possible we use local suppliers. Our veg man Terry Jones is located on the same street as us. Our fishmonger Snowdens has stalls in both, Swansea and Cardiff market. All our steaks are 28 matured British beef and of course the lamb is Welsh.

We advertise in most annual event programs, including: The Jazz Festival, The Porthcawl Swim, The Celtic Celebration Weekend and The Annual Porthcawl Carnival. All of which have a great impact on our town. All proceeds from the programs go to The Local Mayor’s chosen charities. We have also supported The Neurofibromatosis Association by sponsoring their Tapas Cookbook.

We are proud sponsors of Porthcawl Football Club. Having provided the club with a football kit. We wanted to support the development of the club and its younger players. So we agreed to provide the kit for the 3rd team, which acts more as a youth set up.

Porthcawl is a small seaside town where everyone knows each other. There is a great sense of community. We do our best to be apart of that.

Of recent we have begun to enjoy award success. Winning ‘Best World Cuisine Restaurant’ at The Food Awards Wales 2018. And an award for being recognized as a ‘Top 20 Restaurant’, at The Restaurant Awards Wales 2018.

We have also been recommended by the Western Mail as a ‘must try’ restaurant along the South Wales Coastal Path.

We are blessed to have such a great team working here. A great mixture of young and younger. All of them work so hard to make your experience an enjoyable one.

Porthcawl is a holiday resort in South Wales. It has a promenade, with views overlooking the Bristol Channel and Devon. It also boasts several beaches, two of which have Blue Flag status. There are many restaurants, hotels and guest-houses as well as a funfair called Coney Beach.

The Grand Pavilion is the venue for popular shows. Before shows Isabella’s offers a very popular ‘2 course pre-theatre menu’. Bookings are essential as we fill up very quickly.

Porthcawl hosts several festivals throughout the year. Porthcawl Town Carnival takes place annually in July. Themed floats and acts make their way around the town, including the local RNLI and Fire Department collecting money for charity, and competing for the prize of the best float. The procession makes its way to Porthcawl Rugby Club where there are stalls, a fun fair, and live acts to be enjoyed.

The Porthcawl Jazz & Blues Festival is held annually in April hosting a variety of musical performances, workshops and family events over a weekend.

Surf Cult runs for a week in September. Events include surf contests, music, art, fashion and film plus an outdoor market. The festival ends with the legendary Surfers' Ball. Held at The Grand Pavilion.

And The Elvis Festival runs every September. It attracts Elvis tribute artists and devotees from across the world. It is recognized as the biggest gathering of Elvis fans in Europe and maybe in the world.
